TECH TIP: Easy Mandrel Depth Setting for Single Point Machining.

Correct Miter Mandrel depth is critical when single point machining.
Determine where you want the finished face of land. Make a soapstone reference mark at that point (A). (If pipe end is irregular, this mark should prevent an interrupted cut). Measure and make a second mark 3.25” deeper in the bore (B) that will be the line-up for the mandrel “front” legs (the row closest to the operator). With Indicator Sleeve attached, insert the mandrel and align the front legs to the deeper line-up mark (B). At this point, the front edge of the Indicator Sleeve Assy should be aligned with the finished face of land. You may then proceed with dial indicator measurement and miter mandrel tightening procedures.
